Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscles and the connective tissue or fascia.  This type of massage focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. Deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals that experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity (such as athletes), and patients who have chronic pain from prior physical injury.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage uses a series of flowing strokes to increase circulation and remove toxins from the muscles. Always working towards the heart, the therapist incorporates effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber), and vibration /shaking into a flowing massage session that leaves the patient physically and emotionally relaxed.

Shiatsu Massage

Shiatsu–or finger pressure–is an Eastern born therapy that uses pressure applied with thumbs, fingers, and palms to the same energy meridians as acupressure and incorporates stretching. It also uses techniques such as rolling, brushing,

vibrating, and grasping. The Shiatsu Massage technique is intended to release energy in areas where it may be blocked or stagnant, and to bring energy back to areas that are depleted.

Reflexology

(Zone Therapy)

Reflexology is a type of massage technique in which thumbs and fingers are used to apply pressure to the feet without the use of oil or lotion. It is based on a system of zones and reflex areas of the foot that correspond to all of the glands, organs, and systems of the body. Applied pressure to these zones will help to remove energy blockages, improve circulation to that zone and throughout the body, causing the body to work as its own natural healer.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot Stone massage is a technique in which stones coated in oil are used by the therapist to deliver various massaging strokes. Hot stones are also placed systematically along the different major meridians of the body. The heat of the stones deeply penetrates into the muscles, releasing tension. Hot stone massage is often used in conjunction with other modalities.

Aromatherapy massage

Aromatherapy massage is a massage in which a combination of up to five essential oils are added to lotion or carrier oil.  When inhaled, these oils affect the nervous system, thereby improving one’s mood and energizing the body and mind. Each essential oil has different healing properties, some calm while others energize.

Ways to Maximize Treatment Benefits of Massage

Breathing deeply can help when your therapist is working on particularly sensitive areas. The massage may be intense, but if a client starts to feel pain, he or she should communicate that immediately.  Taking a sauna or steam bath after your massage can help to reduce any soreness you may feel as it encourages the muscles to relax. Stiffness after a deep pressured massage is normal and usually dissipates within a day or two.
