Our Name and Mission

Where Does Our Name Lotus on the Nile Come From?

Acupuncture has a glorious history in China spanning over 3,000 years of continuous clinical practice. Modern excavations in Egypt’s Nile Valley have brought to light the oldest medical text known to humankind: The Ebers Papyrus. The Papyrus is a compilation of earlier medical texts with some entries dating back to 3400 BC. With great clarity and understanding the Ancient Egyptians elucidated 12 vessels of energy flow and described treatment therapy to address imbalance. The description of the 12 vessels has more recently been thought to be the early roots of the fascinating and skillful healing art of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The lotus flower has long been prized for its beauty and symbolic significance of health and prosperity, awakening and transformation. Both in Egypt and throughout Asia, the lotus flower can be seen growing off the banks of rivers and lakes by breaking its way through water, mud, and debris towards the embrace and sunlight of the heavens. The lotus greets each day by unfolding its petals to the sun, and ends the day by closing them for renewal during nightfall. This cycle reminds us of the infinite possibility of regeneration offered to each of us in every moment of every day. Hence, we offer Lotus on the Nile Wellness Center.
